Preparing for “The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride” on sunday.

Best Bike DGR 2014This Sunday (the 28th of September 2104) it’s time for “The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride” to raise awareness about prostate cancer once again.
Find out more at www.gentlemansride.com

I built this award for “best bike” that we are going to present at the finish line of the ride (at Nytorget in Stockholm, Sweden). Go there at around 12:30- 13:00 if you want to vote for the best bike and support the research about prostate cancer.

Today Jens also got interviewed for Swedish Radio P4 about the ride, here’s a link if you want to listen to that (it’s in Swedish). Interview

The one day chop.

DSC_0023Yesterday I managed to lean a bit too far in a corner and put the GS down on the ground, I’m blaming the brand spanking new tires (and the new size of the rims, the original ones were 18″ front and rear and these are 19″ front and 16″ rear) that are a bit slippery until rode in 😉
As a result I decided to cut the bike to pieces and kong the frame (don’t get on my bad side!). Before the chop it all looked like this (if you look closely you can see that the mirror is broken and there are some scrapes on the engine and the clutch lever due to my small incident).
DSC_0028Since I was alone in the garage in the morning I got right down to cutting the frame up where I wanted to kong it, it’s fun seeing an idea take shape when you’re holding an angle grinder! I didn’t have enough quality tubing to build a completely new rear frame so I had to reuse the existing tubes after cleaning the pieces up and bending them the way I wanted (in that sense it’s good that the GS is really long).
GS450 Chop 3Everybody told me that a chop couldn’t be done in a day but with this bike my goal is to be able to ride it to the garage, build some stuff and then ride it home so I kind of had to get the fabricating and welding done all at once. Maybe it’s a silly idea to have but I just don’t want the bike to sit in the garage the whole summer just because I don’t have the time to finish it.
Gs450 Chop 4This is what the bike looked like when i rode it home at around 21:00, hopefully I have the time to fabricate a new gas tank (I think everyone can see that this tank is way too big and not even closely the shape I want) and mount the rear turn signals sometime soon. After that I’m just going to find a smaller headlight and do something about the gauges (and of course the seat needs some padding).

Junk or treasure?

DCIM100GOPROI look at a lot of sites like eBay and Tradera for used motorcycle parts and other crap that I don’t need. So finally it caught up with me and i “accidentally” won an auction with approximately 1.200kg of used motorcycle parts. They had to be collected outside of Örebro as soon as possible so I rented a van and me and Smeden took a road trip (Örebro is about a two and half hour drive or something).
Junk trip 2Here we have loaded some of the stuff into the van and there’s still more stuff being put in there. Almost all of the parts were neatly labeled with what bike it came of and what year the bike was made, that’s going to save us a lot of hassle when we go through all the goodies. There’s all kinds of things in the boxes. Handle bars, foot pegs, headlights, gauges, carbs, turn signals, hand controls, and much much more.
DCIM100GOPROAfter loading all of it into the van we got kind of hungry so we made a pit stop in Örebro at “the Hut” before driving back to our garage and unloading the treasure trove.
I have no idea about what we are supposed to do with all the stuff but some of it will probably be sold at swap meets or something.

New arrival: Caspers XS650

xs650 077Last saturday I went with Casper down to Norrköping to meet up with Erik from Kapten Mogade. Casper bought his cool looking Yamaha XS650. With 23″ front tire, poor mans hardtail and cool paintjob 🙂 The bike in the back is Eriks HD shovel.

xs650 079Here is a better pic of Erik´s shovel with suicide clutch and all. Since we talked alot about armadillos and badgers  with Erik he gave us each a pair of cool  Kapten Mogade goat skin gloves. They are real good ones, check out Kapten Mogade at http://www.kaptenmogade.com/
